Jorge Martin, the 2024 MotoGP world champion, shared his enthusiasm after securing a spot in the second qualifying session (Q2) at the Czech MotoGP Grand Prix in Brno. Consequently, his comeback after a long injury break proved successful, with a fifth-place finish in practice. Therefore, this article covers Martin’s comments, his performance on the wet Brno track, and his outlook for qualifying. As such, his return with Aprilia Racing has drawn significant attention.

In a MotoGP interview, Martin stated, “I’m thrilled to be back. It was tough, but I stayed focused and did well in the wet.” For this reason, he achieved fifth place in FP1 with a strong lap time, despite the challenging wet conditions at Brno. Consequently, Martin, returning after a four-month absence, showed impressive confidence. However, he admitted difficulties adapting to Hankook tires on the slippery track. Therefore, earning a direct Q2 spot was a major milestone. As such, Martin is optimistic about his qualifying chances.

The FP1 session in Brno, delayed 20 minutes due to rain, presented a slick track that tested all riders. For this reason, Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing) topped the session with 1:54.606, followed by Johann Zarco (LCR Honda) and Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha). Consequently, Martin’s fifth-place finish outpaced his teammate Marco Bezzecchi. However, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) struggled, finishing 13th and facing Q1. Therefore, Martin commended Brno’s newly resurfaced track for its fast-drying grip. As such, his performance sets a solid foundation for FP2.

Martin has been sidelined since a severe crash in Qatar, suffering fractured ribs and lung trauma. For this reason, he only competed once this season in Lusail before the injury forced him out. Consequently, a private test at Misano last week, completing 64 laps, prepared him for this return. However, a contract dispute with Aprilia fueled rumors of a potential move to Honda HRC. Therefore, Martin, now committed to Aprilia through 2026, is focused on proving his worth on the track. As such, his Q2 qualification marks a promising step forward.

Martin aims for a front-row start in qualifying, despite stiff competition from Marquez and Alex Marquez. For this reason, Luigi Dall’Igna, Ducati’s Director, praised Martin’s quick adaptation, while rival Bagnaia faced challenges. Consequently, Martin highlighted Brno’s “exceptional grip” as an advantage. However, unpredictable weather remains a key factor. Therefore, teamwork with Bezzecchi and Aprilia will be crucial. As such, qualifying promises to be highly competitive.

Overall, Jorge Martin is excited to secure Q2 in his Czech MotoGP return, delivering a strong fifth place in Brno’s FP1. Will he clinch pole position? Share your thoughts in the comments! For more details, visit SPORTRIK.
