Marc Marquez launched from pole with confidence, but an electronic glitch in his Ducati GP25’s start system caused him to lose ground at the first corner, dropping to fourth. Francesco Bagnaia seized the opportunity to take the lead, closely followed by Alex Marquez, who displayed consistent pace on his Gresini Racing machine.

Marquez, leveraging his eight world championships’ worth of experience, quickly recovered. By lap three, he overtook Maverick Vinales (#12) for third and began closing the gap to the leaders. A fierce duel between Bagnaia and Alex Marquez mid-race allowed Marquez to draw nearer. With his trademark boldness at the Arrabbiata 2 corner, Marquez executed a decisive double overtake on the final lap, clinching victory by a narrow 0.215-second margin over Alex Marquez.
Alex Marquez secured second, marking his best Sprint Race result of the season, while Bagnaia, who led for seven laps, settled for third after losing traction in the final sector. Vinales, riding a competitive Tech3 KTM, finished fourth, followed by Fabio Di Giannantonio and Marco Bezzecchi, who earned strong support from the home crowd.
Fabio Quartararo showed early promise, holding fourth until lap five. However, the YZR-M1’s lack of straight-line speed saw him steadily drop back, finishing 10th. This result intensified pressure on the French rider, who had hoped Aragon test improvements would yield better performance in the main race.
The race was marred by dramatic crashes that eliminated three riders:
- Pedro Acosta (#31): The Tech3 KTM rookie lost control at the San Donato corner on lap two, sliding into the gravel while attempting to pass Franco Morbidelli.
- Brad Binder (#33): Another KTM rider, Binder crashed at the Scarperia corner on lap four, likely due to excessive front tire pressure.
- Johann Zarco (#5): The Pramac Ducati veteran suffered a crash at the Palagio corner on lap seven, losing rear grip while pursuing Raul Fernandez.
All three incidents resulted in no serious injuries but impacted their teams’ strategies for the main race.
The main race on Sunday, June 22, 2025, will test endurance and strategy. Marc Marquez, buoyed by his Sprint win, aims to repeat his 2014 Mugello triumph. Bagnaia, backed by home fans, must capitalize on Ducati’s straight-line speed to secure a third consecutive Mugello victory. Quartararo and Yamaha need a solution for their straight-line deficit, while KTM must ensure Acosta and Binder avoid further mishaps.
With double points at stake in the main race, the top-10 Sprint finishers will strive to maintain their momentum. Tire management and fuel efficiency will be critical in the longer race distance.
