Red Bull KTM rider Pedro Acosta topped the combined practice sessions at the 2025 Hungarian MotoGP in Balaton Park with a time of 1'37.061, edging out Marc Marquez of Ducati Lenovo by just 0.006 seconds. SPORTRIK’s exclusive analysis highlights Acosta’s stunning performance and the fierce competition on this debut circuit.
Acosta Shines on Debut Track
The combined practice sessions at Balaton Park, marking MotoGP’s return to Hungary since 1992, saw Acosta set the pace with a 1'37.061 lap. Narrowly surpassing Marquez, the championship leader with 12 consecutive wins, Acosta demonstrated exceptional adaptability on the 4.115 km technical circuit using the RC16.
The top six was rounded out by Alex Marquez of BK8 Gresini Ducati, Fermin Aldeguer of BK8 Gresini Ducati, Enea Bastianini of Red Bull KTM Tech3, and Franco Morbidelli of Pertamina VR46 Ducati. However, Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati Lenovo struggled, finishing 14th, still grappling with the GP25.
Honda’s Progress and Aprilia’s Challenges
Honda showed surprising progress, with Joan Mir and Luca Marini of Honda HRC Castrol finishing seventh and ninth. Marini, reportedly testing a new chassis, continued to display improvement. Conversely, Aprilia faced setbacks after earlier engine issues. Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi of Aprilia Racing placed 11th and 12th, while Raul Fernandez of Trackhouse Aprilia finished 19th.
The session’s top speed was recorded by Acosta and Brad Binder at 307 km/h, surpassing Marquez’s 303 km/h. The tight margins at the top indicate that tire strategy and track mastery will be critical.
