Marc Marquez recorded his best lap time during the Balaton Park test, yet he remains behind World Superbike star Toprak Razgatlioglu. In-depth analysis of Marquez’s onboard footage revealed a competitive lap time, generating buzz ahead of the Hungarian MotoGP on August 22-24, 2025.
The Balaton Park test featured several Ducati riders, including Pecco Bagnaia, Alex Marquez, Fermin Aldeguer, Franco Morbidelli, and Fabio Di Giannantonio. Supported by test rider Michele Pirro, who had prior experience at the circuit, the team showcased strong performances. Marquez clocked a lap time of 1:41.5, but Bagnaia outpaced him, demonstrating superior speed. Aldeguer secured third, trailing Bagnaia by 0.3 seconds, while Morbidelli and Alex Marquez were 0.1 seconds behind Aldeguer. Di Giannantonio lagged 0.5 seconds off Bagnaia’s pace.
Balaton Park previously hosted the World Superbike Championship, where Razgatlioglu dominated with three victories. His best practice time on Friday was 1:39.743, and his pole position lap reached 1:38.357. Meanwhile, Alvaro Bautista recorded 1:40.551. Notably, direct comparisons are challenging due to differences in conditions, tires, and machinery—Ducati’s Panigale V4 was used in the MotoGP test, unlike the Superbike bikes. Nevertheless, these figures highlight the potential for intense competition at this new circuit.
Razgatlioglu praised Balaton Park’s hard braking zones, which align with his riding style. However, the circuit’s emphasis on left-handed corners favors Marquez, a known specialist in such turns. Consequently, Marquez and Bagnaia are well-positioned to challenge Razgatlioglu’s lap record during the official MotoGP event. The riders’ focus now shifts to the Austrian MotoGP on August 15-17, 2025, before returning to Hungary.
The Balaton Park test underscored fierce competition among Ducati riders, with Bagnaia leading Marquez. Despite trailing Razgatlioglu’s Superbike times, Marquez’s performance signals strong potential, particularly on left-handed corners. For further MotoGP updates, visit SPORTRIK.
