Charles Leclerc has been accused of misleading Ferrari fans by claiming that restoring the team’s success is more important than winning a world title elsewhere. 1997 champion Jacques Villeneuve has questioned the sincerity of this statement, suggesting Leclerc’s true priority is winning. This article examines Leclerc’s comments, Villeneuve’s critique, and Ferrari’s 2025 challenges. Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Leclerc, with 140 starts for Ferrari over seven seasons, has secured only eight wins and no drivers’ championship despite being a generational talent. In 2022, he started strongly but faded against Max Verstappen of Red Bull. After Ferrari’s near-miss in the 2024 constructors’ championship, trailing by 14 points, hopes were high for 2025. However, the SF-25 has underperformed, lagging 299 points behind McLaren’s MCL39 at the summer break.

Leclerc, who took pole at Hungary 2025 but finished P4 due to a chassis issue, has yet to win a grand prix this season. Recently, he stated that making Ferrari successful outweighs winning a title elsewhere. Villeneuve, speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, doubted this. “It’s a nice message for his team and fans, but I don’t think it’s true,” he said. “A real driver only cares about winning. Success at Ferrari, where many champions failed, is better, but an athlete’s priority is victory, and time is passing for him.”

Leclerc’s 2025 season has been tough, with 145 points, trailing Lewis Hamilton (109 points) and far behind championship leader Oscar Piastri. Despite five podiums, the SF-25’s weaknesses and poor team strategies, like in Monaco 2022, have hindered wins. At 28, Leclerc faces pressure to secure a title, and Villeneuve’s call for an “intelligent choice” suggests considering other teams.

With 10 races left in 2025, Leclerc has chances to win at tracks like Zandvoort, but McLaren’s dominance and Lando Norris’ strength pose challenges. The 2026 regulations may offer Ferrari a fresh start, but Leclerc must weigh whether staying is the best path. Is Leclerc truly committed to Ferrari, or should he seek a new team? Comment below!
