Reigning MotoGP World Champion Jorge Martin believes that having “no references” at the Balaton Park circuit could be an advantage at the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix. Speaking during a media session ahead of this weekend’s race (22–24 August), the Aprilia Racing rider shared his approach to adapting to the RS-GP bike after switching from Ducati. This in-depth analysis is brought to you by SPORTRIK based on official sources.

Martin’s Adaptation Challenges with Aprilia

The 2025 season has been challenging for Jorge Martin. After moving from Pramac Ducati to Aprilia, he has completed only one of the first 13 races due to recurring injuries. As the MotoGP season heads into its 14th round at Balaton Park, Martin continues to adjust his riding style to the Aprilia RS-GP. He explained that habits formed over four seasons with Ducati, such as braking points and cornering techniques, are no longer applicable. Consequently, he must unlearn these habits to find a new rhythm with Aprilia’s bike.

The Advantage of a New Circuit

The Balaton Park circuit, a new addition to the MotoGP calendar, offers Martin a unique opportunity. Without prior experience at this track, he is free from the burden of past “references” or ingrained riding patterns applied at familiar circuits. “I used to ride another bike with many references—braking points, corner entries, and exits,” Martin said. “Here, with no references, I can ride without preconceptions and focus on my feeling with the bike.” This approach allows him to explore the Aprilia’s limits without the pressure of replicating old strategies.

Lessons from Austria and Expectations in Hungary

Reflecting on the Austrian Grand Prix, Martin admitted that his overly ambitious mindset led to two crashes, including one in the main race. “I wanted to focus on myself in Austria, but when I got close to the front, my expectations were too high,” he said. For Hungary, Martin is adopting a no-expectations approach regarding results. Instead, he prioritizes understanding the bike’s limits and identifying areas for improvement. “Whatever the result, it will be good. My goal is to find the bike’s limits and what I need to go faster,” he added.

Jorge Martin views the Hungarian Grand Prix as a chance to accelerate his adaptation to Aprilia at the new Balaton Park circuit. By focusing on process over results, he aims to find his rhythm and compete effectively. His performance will be crucial for Aprilia Racing as they prepare for 2026.
