Fermin Aldeguer Undergoes Surgery on Right Arm and Left Hand

Fermin Aldeguer, the talented young Gresini Ducati rider, underwent surgery on his right arm and left hand on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in Barcelona, Spain, following an injury from a crash at the MotoGP Aragon event. The announcement, made by the Gresini Racing team on social media, has raised concerns about his readiness for upcoming races. Aldeguer sustained injuries to his right arm and left hand after a crash during the second free practice session at the MotoGP Aragon on June 8, 2025. Gresini team doctor, Dr. Xavier Mir, reported that the surgery addressed a minor fracture in the radius bone of the right arm and ligament damage in the left hand. The procedure was successful, and Aldeguer is now in recovery, with hopes of returning to racing by late June 2025 in Barcelona.

Gresini team manager Matteo Ferrari expressed full support, stating, “We’re deeply concerned about Fermin’s injury, but he’s in good condition post-surgery. Our focus is on an optimal recovery to get him back on track.

” Aldeguer himself shared a message on Instagram, saying, “Thank you all for the support. I’ll fight hard to recover as soon as possible.”

This injury forces Aldeguer to miss the post-Aragon test on June 9, 2025, where he was scheduled to test motorcycle developments with Ducati. Currently, he sits eighth in the 2025 MotoGP standings with 48 points, trailing leader Marc Marquez by 31 points. A delayed recovery could affect his prospects in the season’s second half, especially with tight races looming in Catalunya and Misano.

Initial prognosis indicates Aldeguer will need four to six weeks to recover, depending on his body’s response to rehabilitation. With the MotoGP Catalunya scheduled for June 27-29, 2025, there is pressure on the medical team to accelerate the process. Gresini plans to utilize test riders to cover his absence during recovery.
