Marc Marquez revealed his main focus during the MotoGP Aragon 2025 test, held on Monday, June 9, 2025, at MotorLand. The Ducati Lenovo rider spent the day evaluating a new aerodynamic package, a highlight following his impressive performance at the Aragon Grand Prix. With a lap time of 1m45.749s placing him third fastest, could this new aero be the key to his 2025 dominance?
Marquez explained that Ducati tasked him with concentrating on the new aerodynamic package during the test, as the next session in Misano would be too late for homologation. Ducati had previously shelved the 2025 aero package post-preseason to revert to the 2024 specification for early race readiness while further developing the new concept. Marquez spent nearly the entire day testing the aero and responded positively.
“There were some positive aspects. We recorded lap times with the new aero package, but with the standard one, the results were very close,” he said. He added that the best combination still needs further evaluation.
During Sunday’s Aragon Grand Prix, Marquez’s teammate Francesco Bagnaia claimed a breakthrough in his front-end confidence after switching to a different-sized brake disc.
Ducati described it as an unprecedented idea, allowing Bagnaia to decelerate more effectively with less brake pressure.
Bagnaia and Fabio Di Giannantonio tested the larger brake disc during the test, but Marquez felt no significant difference.
“For me, there’s no difference between the two discs. It’s just about temperature. With the 355mm, you get slightly less feedback at the end of braking, but you have more power on the straight,” he said.
He noted that the 355mm disc is slightly heavier and only relevant at specific braking points, such as Turns 1 and 16 at Aragon.
As the championship leader with a 32-point lead over Alex Marquez, the development of the new aero and braking innovations could solidify Ducati’s dominance.
The test serves as a strategic move ahead of Misano, where Marquez hopes to identify the optimal combination. Meanwhile, his response to the brake disc suggests that adapting to new technology remains a personal challenge for riders.
