Adrien Fourmaux once again faced misfortune in the World Rally Championship (WRC). After leading Rally Sardinia and fiercely competing with Sébastien Ogier, his hopes of securing a maiden victory were dashed due to a dramatic incident on the course.
Fourmaux started Rally Sardinia with an outstanding performance, even taking the lead on Friday before trailing Ogier by just 2.1 seconds. However, everything changed drastically on Saturday morning when he suffered a puncture in the front left tire during the eighth stage (Lerno - Su Filigosu 1, 24.34 km). Despite attempting to continue racing, Fourmaux was forced to stop to change the wheel, losing nearly four minutes in the process. The situation worsened when he had to stop again to allow Ogier, who was caught in the dust he left behind, to pass.
After losing the lead, Fourmaux tried to recover. However, in the ninth stage, he went off the track twice due to dust entering his car. In an effort to avoid rocks, he even crossed a field and collided with a TV camera before returning to the course. These mistakes caused him to plummet to ninth place overall, trailing Ogier, who maintained the lead, by 4 minutes and 46.6 seconds.
This is not the first time Fourmaux has faced misfortune this season. Previously, he lost second place in Rally Portugal due to a mechanical failure and encountered technical issues at the Safari Rally Kenya.
Despite his disappointment, Fourmaux remains optimistic that his luck will turn. "It feels like we can’t catch a break, but that will change," he said with confidence.
