Charles Leclerc has retracted his frustration directed at Ferrari following a disappointing Hungarian Grand Prix. Starting from pole, Leclerc’s race was marred by a chassis issue, leading to a fourth-place finish. Based on detailed analysis, Leclerc admitted his error in criticizing the team over the radio and clarified the technical issue that derailed his performance.

Leclerc led the race confidently through the first pit stop phase at Hungaroring. However, issues emerged around lap 40 due to a chassis problem with his SF-25 car. “I felt the issue starting on lap 40, and it worsened lap after lap,” Leclerc explained. This caused a performance drop of up to two seconds per lap, rendering the car nearly undrivable by the race’s end.

Leclerc’s frustration boiled over as he voiced criticism over the team radio, questioning Ferrari’s pit wall strategy. His erratic defending against George Russell earned him a five-second penalty, described by Martin Brundle as “bordering on wholly unreasonable.” Despite the penalty, Leclerc secured fourth place, a meager consolation after starting from pole.

Post-race, Leclerc retracted his earlier comments. “I need to take back what I said on the radio,” he told the media. “I thought the issue was something else, but it was a chassis problem, not something we could have managed differently.” He labeled the issue an outlier that should not recur, though he remained disappointed for losing a key opportunity to win this season.

Leclerc’s Hungarian GP setback underscores the impact of unforeseen technical issues on a promising race. His apology reflects maturity in addressing the situation. For deeper insights into the race and driver profiles, visit SPORTRIK.
